Last year saw the largest wave of student protest in over 20 years as the government pushed-through fees of £9,000, scrapped EMA and announced savage cuts. Students responded with walkouts, protests, occupations and solidarity with striking staff, in a wave of anger and creativity that refused to let a generation be thrown on the scrapheap.

This year the attacks to education are not as obvious, but they are even more destructive. The HE White Paper spells nothing less than the break-up of public education as departments, staff, students and institutions are forced to compete with each other in a for-profit race to the bottom.

Come together with other students, educationalists and trade unionists in discussing how we can defend what we have and create an alternative vision for education- one that is critical, creative and benefits all- against the elitism and austerity of the government plans.
